Red Cedar Volleyball League Rules

MHSSA rules: see exceptions below

Results:  Results of all weekly games shall be emailed by your community coordinator that hosted.  Divisions: Teams will be separated by grade and then division if necessary.

Coaches: Two coaches shall be allowed on the bench during games. Head coach should wear  their schools dark color shirt to be identified by officials. Bookkeepers shall only keep the  book and not serve as additional coaches.

Uniforms: Team uniforms may consist of T-shirts with the player’s small number on the front and  large number on the back. Similar short color is encouraged.

Net Height: 7 feet 4 1/8 for 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 grades.

Court Size: A full size court 30’ by 30’ for each half will be utilized.

Ball size: regulation size for 7-8 grades. Light-weight ball to be used for 4-6 grades.

Warm up: 4-4-2 warmup for the first match of the day, then a 4-2 warmup if one of teams stays  on the court to play a new team (4 minutes- each team will get the entire court to themselves and  then last 2 minutes- will share court to serve). Each team will be responsible for bringing their  own balls to warm up.

Match: 1 match will consist of 3 games. First 2 games will be played to 25 points with rally scoring.  Team must win 2 out of 3 games to win the match, win by 2, and be capped at 27. We  encourage the 3rd game regardless if 1 team has won the first 2 games.  This modification is to encourage practice/skill building.  3rd game modifications: 4-6 grades will play to 25/27 points. 7-8 grades will play to 15/17 points.

Serving Line: 7-8 grades will serve from the regulation line. 5-6 grades are allowed a foot and half inside the regulation line with a marked piece of tape. 4th grade will serve at the 10 ft line.  All grades are allowed 1 re-toss when serving. *RE-TOSS / RESERVE* - First attempt/  opportunity at serving and player does not contact the ball to serve (Ex. Player catches the ball or  let’s drop).

Serving Limit: 4-6 grades will have a 5 serve max limit and if reached, the next  player in rotation will serve, so the team does not lose the serve. 7-8 grades will not  have a serve max limit.

Libero: For 7-8 grades only, a libero may be used but is not required. If used no tracking is  required.

Time limits: Games will be 1-hour and time will be kept by officials. If the 3rd game is not required, end the game at time limit. If 3rd game is required, play till 15/17 points for 7-8 grades and 25/27 for 4-6 grades.

Time outs: Each coach will be granted two (30 second) timeouts.

Referees: 1 registered MHSAA official per match.

Line Judges will be players that are playing that day, at that site. There will be a $50 fine per  game that a scheduled line judge player is a no-show.

Score keeper/flipper: The team that is line judging will keep score. There will be a $50 fine per  game that a scheduled line judge player/flip score is a no-show.

Bookkeeper: each team shall provide their own bookkeeper

Playing Time: There are no playing time rules but it is expected that everyone participates.

Practices: are limited to 4 hours per week. This is an honor system. Be respectful of the rules to  your team, parents, and the league.

Ejections: If a player, coach or spectator is ejected from a contest they will be suspended from  the next contest. A second offense shall result in removal from the league for the remainder of the  season. The host site is responsible to report this to the league. Officials shall file an incident  report to the host site. This shall be completed in 24 hours and turned in to the league director. If  a player, coach or spectator is removed from any league tournament or league sponsored  tournament the will not be eligible for the remainder of the tournament. Continued disregard  of rules or disrespectful conduct by a coach or parents could result in removal of team from the  league. Our goal and concept is to teach the children not winning at all or any cost.
